Bessey Commons Senior Housing

The Bessey School project, known as Bessey Commons, is well under way.  This senior housing project on Route One across from Town Hall, is scheduled to open in eary Fall and will provide 53 smoke-free, one-bedroom apartments for residents 55 and over.

The apartments will consist of kitchen, dining area, bedroom, living room and bathroom.  Common living space includes a library, sewing/quilting room, common living room, country kitchen, exercise room, activity room and laundry facilities.

Rents will average $700 per month and include heat and hot water.  This income-qualified project is part of the low income tax credit program.  For more information about Bessey Commons, please call 885-8801.

Maine Senior Farm Share Program

The Maine Senior Farm Share Program provides $50 of free produce from local farms. To be eligible for this program, seniors must be at least 60 years old and have an individual income below $19,240.  Couples income must be below $25,900. To find out more about this important program, please call the Southern Maine Agency on Aging at 396-6500.
IRS Stimulus Checks

You may be entitled to a $300 tax refund even if you do not normally file income taxes. To find out how you can file for this refund, call the Southern Maine Agency on Aging at 396-6500 and someone there will be able to help you.  The deadline for filing is October 1, 2008.
